The Idoma Area Traditional Council (IATC) on Wednesday zoned the selection of a new Och’Idoma to the people of Apa/Agatu Intermediate Area Traditional Council.
Our correspondent reports that the decision was taken after a meeting held in Otukpo with stakeholders of the Idoma and Igede extraction following the hunting expedition embarked on by the Ochi’Idoma IV, Dr Elias Ikoyi Obekpa in October, this year.

State Deputy Governor, Engr. Benson Abounu, who presided over the meeting with the acting Och’Idoma and Chairman, IATC, Agabaidu, Engr. George Edeh, in attendance, mandated the two local government areas which constitute the Apa/Agatu Intermediate Area to meet and decide which of the two local government areas would produce the best Ochi’Idoma.
Abounu tasked members of the Apa/Agatu and other stakeholders from the area to look inward and carefully come out with persons with the capacity, comportment and discipline to lead the Idoma nation.
On his part, Senator Abba Moro called on the people of Apa and Agatu to work together as brothers and amicably resolve who becomes the paramount ruler in the interest of the Idoma nation.
