The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN), has urged Nigerians to exercise patience with the various economic policies by the President Bola Tinubu-led administration to gestate and have a projected impact on society.

President of ICSAN, Mrs Funmi Ekundayo gave the advice at a media parley held in Lagos.

According to her, Nigerians should bear in mind that the policies would take time to gain traction, given the peculiarity of the realities on the ground. While also noting that the socioeconomic problems of the country did not start with the current administration.

Ekundayo urged citizens to also consider the rationale leading to the fuel subsidy removal and the benefits accrued to us as a nation, as well as the long-term positive impacts on the economy.

She said, “Gestation period must happen. Policies will take their time to gain traction fully. Nigerians should remain optimistic as things will get better. We are coming from a place of deep-rooted socioeconomic problems. For things to be cleaned up and begin to build again, it will take some time.”

Following the plea for patience on the path of the citizens, Ekundayo also expressed the importance for the cost of governance to be at its barest minimum. Adding that the government should take the lead while tasking people to forebear.

She said, “As an institute, we have always advocated for the cost of governance to be at its barest minimum. If the government is asking the people to tighten their belts, the government should also lead by example. People should see the efforts of the government to reduce the cost of governance. This will free resources to attend to other pressing issues.

ICSAN chief also called for an overhaul of the public sector and to build pragmatic checks and balances to address corruption and inefficiency.
