The IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja triumphed over the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938 46½ -16½ in an inter-club friendly match-play which brought out the best in the golfers from the two renowned golf clubs in Nigeria.
Led by their captain, Tony Onwu, the Ikoyi Club golfers numbering 50 tested their strength against the IBB golfers in a contest held over two days in Abuja.
The matches provided opportunity for golfers from the two clubs to strengthen ties and network.
Notable golfers like Oludare Bello, Hon. Terngu Tsegba, S.I Ameh, Igbuan Okaisabor, Emmanuel Onyeama, Suleiman Mohammed and Olusola represented the IBB golf club in the matches.
Ikoyi Club had the likes of Onwu, Remi Olukoya and Muyiwa Jacob in its team.
At the end of the friendly matches the captain of Ikoyi Golf Club Onwu thanked IBB Club for organising such a successful match-play assuring that his club would host the return leg next year.
IBB Captain, Hamid Abbo, represented by the Competition and Caddy Secretary, Iguan Okaisabor thanked Ikoyi for honouring the invitation and giving his members good matches.
“We are honoured by the visit of the Ikoyi Club delegation. The matches afforded us the pleasure of enjoying golf, meeting old friends and making new contacts. We shall definitely assemble a strong team as it is our intention to retain our honours in the return contest in Lagos next year,” he said.
