A former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), has thrown his weight behind the moves by the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja to start an annual International Golf Classic, tagged “IBB Classic” to be held annually.
General Babangida made the endorsement when he received the Executive Members of the Club led by its Captain, Ibrahim Babayo, at his Hilltop residence in Minna, the Niger State Capital.
The former Military President who commended the club for adding value to the country, believed that such an international meet will further put the country in the world map positively.
Captain of the Club, Babayo had earlier briefed General Babangida on the efforts of his executive to add the new programme, ‘IBB International Golf Classic competition’ to the Club’s calendar.

“We have to come to our father, the father of the Club, the life patron of IBB International Golf and Country Club and we have also come to inform him of the annual IBB classic that will be held every August which will be a Pro-Am and of International status.
“The reason for this is to showcase the beauty of our course and bring more professional golfers around the world to Nigeria.
“Golf has become a big earner while some countries are also using golf as part of their foreign policy,” said Babayo.
The life patron was presented with a club souvenir as a mark of honour for his contributions to the prestigious Club which he founded 1991.
Babayo was accompanied on the trip by some of the executive members, Club’s Resident Pro as well as Club Manager.
