The Ladies Section of the IBB International Golf and Country Club has concluded the two-weeks program designed for children who are between the ages of 5 and 18 years.
In a brief chat with Maj. Gen Ibrahim Bata Malgwi Haruna (rtd) who is also the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the club gave his assessment on the program.
“It is developing the children to be sports men and as sports men, they can also play golf. They enjoy their companionship; they make great lasting friends and develop character while attending the clinic.
“We want our kids to be happy, brought up well, to have friends, to develop the spirit of sportsmanship and gamesmanship. These children will look back and be happy their children made this sacrifice for them to play golf,” he said.
Similarly, the Lady Vice Captain, Mary Rose Richard Obioha said she is optimistic some of the children will become professionals in future.
“We had estimated 120 people but we saw is above 130 which is good outing for the children. They are eager to play golf. We have more children showing interests and we have more people going to participate in the Junior Open coming up in two weeks’ time.
“The sky is their limit as they can go for international competitions. We have attached the children to professionals in liaison with their parents. They coach and prepare them for international competitions.
In the same vein, a former Lady captain, Aphia Yaduma expressed her joy at the turnout of children for the program.
“This year own is different and more impressive than the ones we had done in the past because the turn out is more amazing than what we expected. We are satisfied with the level of responses from the parents and students,” she said.
Speaking some of the young golfers who were excited at the opportunities offered to play the game.
9-year old Ajibade Oladipo who has participated in the program since when he was 2 years said “Of course I have learnt good sportsmanship, made lots of friend, improved my swing.
“I have been able to pitch well which enabled me to win a competition and this morning (Friday morning) I won a driving competition because of the instructions from the pros on how to improve my backswings,” he said.
Daniel Paul Lassa in his own submission said “I want to take my golf to the next level because of how I see people have become through golf. I learnt from my dad and how golf takes people everywhere. I want to go somewhere with golf,” he said
The 14th edition of the clinic tagged 2019 Children Golf Development Program started on Monday 22nd of July, 2019 and ended on August 2, 2019 at the golf club in Abuja.
