Ibadan: Moment explosion rocked our community – Resident

A resident of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has recounted the moment explosion occurred in his community in Bodija, on Tuesday evening.

Two people have been confirmed dead and 77 others injured in the explosion.

The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, who visited the scene confirmed the casualties.

Makinde said preliminary investigations by security agencies revealed that the blast was caused by illegal miners occupying one of the houses in the area.

The eyewitness, who lives nearby described the harrowing experience in a viral video sighted by Daily Trust.

“I live in the neighborhood, I was observing my prayer around 7:45 pm when suddenly I heard a very loud bang, I have never experienced that kind of sound in my life.

“It was so terrifying that all buildings around were shaking and a lot of buildings, before we realized got damaged.

“So after the sound, there was very thick dust that enveloped the whole area, it was so thick that you could not see the person in front of you. We all had to masked up in order not to get injured.

“After a while, like about one hour, the whole thing subsided and we were able to move to the scene of the incident.

“On getting there, we found that a lot of buildings around that area have been damaged beyond recognition. We saw some experts, bomb expert, security agencies and they looked at a very wide and deep dig. They said possibly it was dynamites that exploded.”
