Governorship candidate of Zenith Labour Party, (ZLP) in Nasarawa State, Umar Aliyu Doma has said that he will not step down for other candidates, but wants them to step down for him.

The candidate who made the statement after he visited the All Progressive Grand Alliance, (APGA) governorship candidate, Labaran Maku, said, “I visit Labaran Maku at his instance, we discussed the elections and the need to work together to ensure a free and fair election devoid of rancour and other sentiments that divide us as a people.”

“Most importantly, we felt the need to ensure that in whatever we do, the best interest of Nasarawa State and its people takes priority. That is what the founding fathers of the state envisaged.

“The visit was made in the public and recorded on tape and video, alliance is normal in politics even at the highest level of any party hierarchy and not between candidates. A wise politician must always maintain an open-door policy.”

Umar Doma, son of former Governor of Nasarawa State under the PDP who was defeated in his second term bid by the incumbent governor, Tanko Al-Makura said, “I have received requests at the highest levels from PDP and APC through proxies including traditional rulers for me to step down, including offers of monetary inducements but that is not why I am in this race. I am in the race to provide an alternative and make a difference if elected.”

The politician brags that, he is not stepping down for any political party or candidate, but he is willing to work with any political party or candidate that agrees to step down for him.

It is on note that there are 29 governorship candidates in Nasarawa State.

The major ones are: Engineer Abdullahi Alhaji Sule of the APC, Mr. David Umbagdau of the PDP and Maku of APGA.
