The incumbent governor of Kano state, who is also the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Saturday’s governorship election in the state has declared that he would be the first person to call and congratulate the winner should the result of the poll not favour him.
Ganduje said leadership is a destiny from God, saying he would accept the outcome of the poll as the will of God.
He stated this on Wednesday, in an interview shortly after the second signing of the state’s election peace accord organized by the state election peace committee.
“Yes I am willing to accept the result of the poll because that is the will of God and I always believe in the will of God, if any other person wins it is the will of God and I am willing to call and congratulate him” Ganduje said.
Thirty-one gubernatorial candidates from various political parties, including nine female candidates signed the peace accord with a view to ensuring a peaceful conduct of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections on Saturday.
It could be recalled that 30 candidates including Governor Ganduje and the Peoples Democratic Party PDP candidate, Abba K. Yusuf had signed similar accord last month before the presidential and National Assembly elections.
According to the co-chair of the committee, the Catholic Bishop Kano Diocese, Rev. Dr John Namaza Niyiring “Since the signing of the 1st Peace Accord, the committee has observed with some serious concern the need to sign the second peace accord, particularly putting into consideration the unhealthy political happenings in the state during some political rallies at Dawakin Tofa and other places.
The former Nigeria’s Permanent representative at the United Nations, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, in his goodwill message stressed the need for peace before, during and after the elections saying “peaceful elections are necessary for a credible outcome.”
The Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi II was represented at the occasion by the Bauran Kano, the District Head of Rogo, Alhaji Muhammad Maharazu.
