A 42-year-old woman has told an Ogba Chief Magistrate Court how she was stunned by the sight of her husband defiling their 8-month-old daughter.
The 42-year-old trader alleged that her husband of many years, Festus Igwome, defiled their daughter in their apartment in the Surulere area of Lagos, while she went out to pick up some items in a nearby shop.
She said, “My Lord, I almost fainted the moment I caught my husband with pants down trying to penetrate our 8-month-old daughter. I couldn’t believe my eyes and I couldn’t shout at first.”
The prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, said it was the mother of the girl that reported the incident to the police at Bode Thomas police station, Surulere.

The prosecutor said upon receipt of the complaint, the accused was arrested and interrogated and that the case was subsequently transferred to the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command.
He said the case was charged to court at the instance of the state Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade.
However, the court did not take the plea of the accused when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector Lucky Ihiehie, asking the court to refer the matter to the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs O. A. Layinka, ordered his remand in custody and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP for advice.
The matter was adjourned till April 30.
