I was advised against giving out my daughter to Tiv – Gov Ishaku

Taraba State governor, Darius Ishaku on Saturday, said some people advised him against giving out his daughter to a man from Tiv ethnic group in view of the long standing hostilities between the Tivs and his (Ishaku) kinsmen, Jukuns.

Ishaku, who made this revelation during the marriage ceremony of his daughter, Clara Kairi Ishaku in Abuja, said they argued why he would be giving his daughter to an ethnic group that has allegedly been killing his people the Jukun.

He, however, said there was nothing wrong with his acceptance of the union between his daughter and a Tiv man, pointing out that such union between the two tribes would help in bringing more understanding between the two ethnic groups.

Ishaku expressed dismay over decision of the Tiv people in Taraba to pull out of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry he set up to find lasting solution to the persistent conflicts between the Tivs and Jukuns.

Daily Trust on Sunday reports that Ishaku himself is married to a Tiv woman.
