Senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial district and running mate to the the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State Governorship candidate for the 2023 elections, Akon Eyakenyi, has promised to set a standard as the first female Deputy Governor in the state if elected.

Addressing journalists at PDP National Secretariat on Wednesday, Eyakenyi said the process was a successful one as the committee wanted to know if she had the capacity to run for the office as the deputy governor.

She also promised to work hard and be a model, set a high standard for every woman in Akwa Ibom State, adding that is the only way more women can be considered for such position now and in the future.

The running mate noted that even though she is going to represent the slot of the women, “I am going as a mother for the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State covering Men, the Youth and the elderly ones, I am going to work for everyone across the state.

“I am going there to serve, to set a standard and ensure that after me, another woman can pick up the position, I will also ensure that women have their due and right at the Executive, Legislative and Party level.”

She also thanked the party in the state, the Governor of Akwa Ibom state Udom Emmanuel and other stakeholders “who approved that a woman be given the slot of deputy governor for the first time.”
