He said, “While in Cotonou, I met Owege’s son, Kelvin, who told me he was from Edo State, and when I returned to Benin in December, I met him again and we became friends.

“On the fateful day, he came to pick me from my house on Siloko Road to his father’s house. He asked me to drive him and his friends to a place where we picked two bags, but I didn’t know the contents of the bags.

“While driving, I saw a gun inside the vehicle. When we came back, they said I should take two laptops; which I refused. So, they gave me N50,000 and I used it to buy drugs because I have an ailment I am treating.”

He added that his friend, Kelvin, escaped arrest and his father was arrested.

On his part, Festus Owege, who stated he was aware of his son’s robbery act, said he was a herbalist who prepared charms for his son to succeed in all his endeavours.
