I sold my cars for my late wife’s cancer treatment –Actor Lekan Olatunji

A Nigerian actor, Lekan Olatunji, has revealed how he emptied his bank account and sold his two automobiles to rescue his dying wife, Wunmi, from cancer.

In a recent interview with actress Biola Bayo on the ‘Talk to B’ show, the artist claimed that he had no idea his wife had cancer until they went for a check-up and discovered that the illness had spread to her spinal cord, rendering her unable to function.

Olatunji stated, “When we got to Lagos for the check-up, we didn’t see any Nigerians; they were like apprentices there. Indians ran the machinery. From there, we were given the results, which revealed that it was cancer. But, rather than responding in her body, it struck her spinal cord. That was why she couldn’t walk anymore. She had breast cancer, although it was little and did not cause her any discomfort.

“When I questioned her about it, she claimed she informed her matron, and she said it was because of family planning, and it wasn’t hurting her honestly. It was not responding in her body at all.

“Even the experts who examined her claimed her body should have started decomposing at the rate it was. They claimed we were going to do two urgent procedures totaling N12.5 million.

“In her presence, she glanced at me and began weeping. I responded don’t worry, then went outside and started weeping. N12.5m, where will I see it?

“So the entire family had to get involved since we couldn’t hide it any longer. We were set to fly her out, but we didn’t acquire the visa in time. Because the family patriarch suggested that we move her to America, and the expenditures would be subtracted from his pay. If we do not do the initial procedure to repair the spinal cord, she will be unable to walk again. I sold two of my automobiles for N4million.

“The first surgery we did was N5.8million, everything we spent was about N7.8million in Lagos and she was there for like two weeks.”

Lekan confirmed his wife’s death on Instagram in September 2023.

His marriage to the departed was blessed with three children.
