I never knew Buhari is this popular — Rarara

Dauda Kahutu Rarara is popular for his songs in praise of President Muhammadu Buhari.

A week ago he went on social media, calling on supporters of the president to donate N1,000 each for his next album.

He was in for a surprise. Overwhelmed, the singer said he never knew Buhari was this popular.

SPONSOR AD

Rarara said he was dazed by the outpouring of response towards the project in which he intends to enumerate over 192 projects the Buhari-led government had successfully executed across the country.

Speaking exclusively to Daily Trust in Kano, Rarara said he was moved to launch the project because of claims in some quarters in the political realm that the president had lost popularity among Nigerian masses.

Kahutu did not mention how much was so far realized from the public donations, but he said the N70m being speculated was like an insult to the cause.

“Talking about realizing N70m within three days on a personality like President Muhammadu Buhari is like an insult, people were so much eager to give more than the N1,000 required and we kept telling them we only need N1,000. They will give their N1,000 and also beg for your indulgence. I have never witness such love expressed to a leader before,” he said

He added that he has not gone public with the amount realized so far on the proposed sponsored song in praise of President Buhari.

He said, “Very soon we will tell the world what we have realized on our proposed masses sponsored song for President Buhari. We intend to hold a press conference to let the world know how much money was realized as well as to tell opponents spreading false information that the President has become unpopular how popular he remains in the heart of the masses.”

Daily Trust observed that some Nigerians had however taken to social media platforms to express opposition to the Rarara project as some had resorted to burning the Nigerian currency in remonstrance to the widely publicised project.

Denies pitching tents with Atiku

Meanwhile the political singer has reiterated his unalloyed loyalty to Buhari, denying reports of purported shift of loyalty to the former vice president, Atiku Abubakar ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

The singer, who became popular during presidential electioneering campaigns of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) in 2015, was reported to have booed and extolled political virtues of the former vice president in the new song.

Atiku who was the presidential candidate of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election is being speculated to contest for the most exalted position in the 2023 race.

Speaking to Daily Trust, Rarara described the report as mere speculation, and a work of mischief makers and propagandists.

Though he described the relations between him and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as very cordial, he said his loyalty to the incumbent president has not changed as being speculated.

He traced the relationship between him and the two political actors dating back to 2015, before Atiku defected to the PDP.
