‘I killed my girlfriend to stop her from prostitution’

A 39-year-old man, Okechukwu Michael, arrested for murder has confessed killing his girlfriend in order to stop her from prostitution.

The suspect had allegedly stabbed his lover, Chinyere Orji, on March 3, 2021, at Abuja Line, Alaba Rago Market area of Ojo.

He was arrested by the market taskforce while attempting to run away after killing his age long girlfriend.

Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu, who confirmed the incident said the homicide unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has taken over the case.

He said the command received a call from one Alhaji Malami Ibrahim of Alaba Rago Market, Ojo Lagos, saying he received a call from Task Force officials that one Ikechukwu Michael of Abuja Line Alaba Rago, allegedly stabbed his girlfriend named Chinyere Orji, 38, to death during a fight.

He said during interrogation, the suspect claimed the deceased was a prostitute, that he wanted to prevent her from going out in the night for her usual hustling.

“Serious marks of violence were seen on the deceased. The suspect will soon be charged to court. The knife used has been recovered. It would be tendered as exhibit in court,” he added.
