‘I have written 20 Islamic books’

What informed your decision to set up Qur’an Kareem Academy?
The whole idea is not just the conventional aspect of it, but a serious minded mission with a view to rescuing the downward trend of Da’awah in our contemporary society.
It is not enough for anybody or scholar to say we are into Da’awah, but how we define it.  Or is it just sitting in the mosque reciting Qur’an or preaching or sermonizing? At least, we feel we should be able to take a cue from what the prophet Muhammad (SAW) did when he started his mission. And what is that? He taught his companions faith before he taught them the Qur’an , thereby ensuring that when they now started reading the Qur’an it actually made abiding faith in their hearts.
And that is the link we are missing today, as we are just reciters of the Qur’an. We don’t really understand what we recite from the Qur’an. So, that explains why we have this anti-Islamic Muslim characters all over the nation. If we are meant to be the leaders and teachers of the world, as actually emphasize by the Qur’an, then why is our society the way it is? When we have multitudes of Muslims in positions all over the country, yet we don’t see things that we desire, which means something is fundamentally wrong, So that is exactly what informed the coming together of Qur’an Kareem Academy to do an extensive research into all these issues that are impeding advancement in our communities.  And not just in our local community, but the nation at large.
And Alhamdulillah, relatively, we have achieved a substantial success in that regard, and in the few weeks, we are going to have a presentation of some of the books that we have written to let the whole world know the research we have been doing within the last two decades. And that will let them know where we are now and where we intend to take the mission insha-Allah.
What inspired you into writing of books?
Alhamdulillah, during our university days, some two decades ago, I had that flare for writing. We were agitated as we read the Qur’an and discovered we are supposed to be the best community ever evolved for mankind, but when we looked around us and when we needed unity among the Muslims who are the best people, we see nothing, but chaos. We need orderliness, we need to come together  and work for the upliftment of Islam, even though, we were very young then, but that something must be wrong somewhere, so we started going from one scholar to the other to ask them what happened to Muslims? Why is our society the way it is? But  unfortunately, we couldn’t obtain much.
Alhamdulillah, after years of research we discovered that the myriad of challenges, the multiplicity of chaotic situations that have been besetting the whole world today emanated from the historic quantity then, especially as is related to Muslims.
It is imbedded in our history, something went wrong at certain stage of our lives and this is exactly what we find out. And we discovered what went wrong visa vis this lackadaisical attitude of the Muslims towards their religion. We didn’t stop at that, after we extensively continued other publications like (Ethics of the Qur’an), we actually devised that one to arrest this trend, we keep on reciting Qur’an every day, but nobody seems to be asking what duties do we owe this Qur’an. That is why you see people reciting Qur’an but it doesn’t show in their lives.
A man that recites Qur’an but still lies, fornicates, steals, and is still corrupt, shows that the Qur’an he is reciting is not playing its role in his life. And we pray every day in the mosque, we assemble, we congregate, yet are more devilish than the devil. So there is a missing link.
For how long have you been writing books and how many have you written so far?
Alhamdulillah, we started publishing since 1991 and by next year, it will be up to 25 years. We have been publishing books.  And as at the last count, I have written 20 standard books now and we have been able to publish same through the Qur’an Kareem Academy. Equally, we have books written by scholars, people we feel their books are worthy of being published. So we are trying to see how we will take it to the copyright commission to reprint, after approval by the commission, but I have personally written 20 books.
