Miss Adewunmi Widdad Adesewa is the CEO of Hardey’s World Mark Of Beauty. She is a 200 Level student of Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), studying Soil Science and Land Management. Adesewa spoke about her passion for cosmetology.
As a science student, what exactly led you into cosmetology?
I will say I have passion for cosmetology and I started practicing it at the age 14. So, I have been in this business for the past 10years. There is no relationship between the course I am studying with my profession. I was born in this business. I started by making hair for mum’s customers.
How lucrative have you found the job?
It is a very lucrative job, but the fee varies because it depends on the level of patronage. At least a good cosmetologist with many clients should earn minimum of N30,000 monthly.
What are the challenges you are facing?
The challenge I have been facing is combining studies with the job.
How many people have you trained on the job?
I have six apprentices right now. They are students like me who are currently undergoing various training. And I have three students who have become professional in this business.
What advice do you have for other students/youths?
Youths should be focused and prayerful in any business or what so ever they are doing. Don’t think when you finish from your learning center that is the end of learning; always take the opportunity to learn from other professionals around you. Keep up-to-date on new products and formulas that could boost your skills. Arrive your place of work early all smiles. Be a team player.
Are you satisfied with the level of the business growth so far?
I am still comfortable with the level the business is growing presently, pending the time I finish my program in FUNAAB.
