Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has distanced himself from alleged agreement purported to have been made with Abia State government to reserve the state and some other states for the incumbent governors who are members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in exchange for presidential votes.
The Vice President described such insinuation as untrue, noting that, Abia is very important state to be captured by the All Progressives Congress (APC) comes this week governorship election.
Professor Osinbajo stated this in Aba, while answering questions from the members of his party during his town hall meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the party ahead of the governorship election coming up at the weekend.
When asked that stakeholders in PDP has been saying that he (Osinbajo) has an agreement with the governor to reserve the state for PDP in exchange for presidential votes, following his frequent visits to the state, and often welcome by top government officials without allowing party members to venue.
The vice President said he visited Abia frequently because of the centrality and importance of the state, adding that it is the leading state for micro, Small and medium scale Enterprises.
He said Abia was the first state where the FG launched the SME clinic.
“This state is very important to us. One of the reasons why APC members were unable to benefit directly from the school feeding program in Abia State for example is that, the State is not controlled by the APC,” he said.
Responding to why he was not at Abia APC Mega rally, he said he cannot be at the same place with the president for security reasons, except in the Vila.
Osinbajo said the PDP tries to use religion in order to create impression in the South East that APC is a party that doesn’t favour Christians, he said he can not compromise his faith as a Christian and nobody can Islamise Nigeria.
