The police in Edo State have arrested an Osun State-based herbalist, Usman Mohammed, for allegedly defrauding a woman of the sum of N6 million.
It was gathered that the suspect collected the money for ritual purposes that would double the amount to N12 million.
Usman, who was paraded along with 70 other suspected criminals arrested for various crimes by the state police commissioner, Haliru Gwandu, said the victim was duped because she was greedy and looking for what she did not keep.
He said he got N3m as his share while other members of his gang shared the remaining the N3m.
“I live in Osun State and I was arrested there. The victim is from Benin. She patronizes my office because I do medicine for her. Before she requested for money ritual, she said I should do something to make her business to grow.
“When she requested for money rituals, I said she must bring the money. She said she has N6 million, I told her to bring a big bag along with the money and that the money will increase to N12 million as she requested.
“She kept the bag in her room for three days as ordered but when she opened it, there was no money inside. She came to meet me that the money was not doubled but I told her that she was responsible for the reason the money did not double,” he said.
He however said that other members of his gang were able to escape while he was arrested by the police.
The police commissioner, Haliru Gwanu, said the suspect would be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.
