I don’t want Para-Soccer to die – Ex-President

Until recently, the physically challenged man was the president of the sport federation and worked assiduously to ensure that the sport is given its due recognition by the National Sports Commission.

However, at the elections held penultimate week in Abuja, wife of Adamawa state Governor, Hajiya Halima Nyako was elected President of Para-Soccer Federation of Nigeria, effectively bringing to an end the reign of Misbahu Didi.

Speaking to Trustsports on the emergence of the Adamawa state first Lady as the president of the sport federation, the founder of the sport said it is a welcome development but expressed fear that she may not have enough time for the sport.

He explained that running a sport federation is highly demanding in terms of time and energy but considering the First Lady’s other commitments, he does not see her being available at all times for the sport.

Didi said that he does not feel let down by his failure to retain the presidency of the sport federation because it is even gratifying that he introduced the sport, nurtured it and today he can confidently say that he had succeeded in laying a solid foundation for it.

“It is not a must that I remain as the president of the federation. It is normal for one to build a house to be occupied by other people. I initiated the sport and worked so hard to get it the desired recognition from the National Sports Commission. I have been able to lay a solid foundation for Para-Soccer and those who have taken over from me would have no problem building on it”.

The former sport federation president reiterated that he will be highly disappointed if those who have taken over the mantle of leadership from him would allow the sport to die.

He said as a board member, he would continue to give the sport all the support at his disposal saying “I am the soul and spirit of the game so there is no way I will fold my hands and allow it die just like that”.

Didi maintained that one year is enough for the incumbent president of the federation to prove in concrete terms that she has something tangible to offer the sport.
