Oba of Lagos, Oba Riliwan Akiolu, has said that he will do everything within his powers to protect his domain.
Akiolu, while speaking at the launch of the book,
‎”My Life, My Medicine: A Chief Medical Director’s Story”, written by Prof. Akin Osibogun, said  he once told former president Olusegun Obasanjo, that, “Lagos nwill never serve as his slave”.
The Oba said the statement was necessitated by an action of the former president which seemed to undermine Lagos.
“When a former president,  Olusegun Obasanjo wanted to take us for a ride. I told him that I was ready to lay down my life for Lagos,” Oba Akiolu said.
‎The traditional ruler who described former governors Bola Tinubu and Raji Fashola as good men, said he also predicted the victory of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, because he knows that he will make a good governor.
“When I said that Ambode will be the next‎ governor of Lagos State after Fashola; many people did not believe me. But didn’t it come to pass?” Akiolu said.
‎However, while speaking at the event, Obasanjo, who was represented by the former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola, did not comment on the Oba’s statement. He only spoke about the author.
“I have been monitoring his career and now, I am satisfied that I did not make a mistake in appointing him in 2006 as LUTH Chief Medical Director. I am proud of the fact that he set up a good template in the management of teaching hospitals,” Obasanjo said.
Responding, the author, Prof. Osibogun, lauded the administration of Obasanjo, saying he has always been an admirer of the former president.
“Between I978 when he commissioned the terminal at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and 1999 when he returned as an elected president, no administration was able to build a new terminal. It was when he returned that he built NMMA2. Also there was no new power plant apart from the one he put in place in 1979, until he returned as a civilian president; the same thing with the Lagos/Ibadan express way. And the icing on the cake was when he appointed me as the CMD of LUTH, though we had never met”, he said.
