Responding to questions from newsmen on his chances in the polls, the APC candidate said: “I am very hopeful of victory in this election”.

Speaking with journalists in Tambuwal shortly after casting his vote at the Tambuwal Community Primary School, the House of Representatives speaker expressed satisfaction with the improvement on the function of the smart card reader unlike the March 28th Presidential and National Assembly elections.

He described the election as “very historic” saying, “I thank almighty God once again to witness this very historic moment. I feel fulfilled this day has come and by the grace of God have been able to cast my vote in a very peaceful atmosphere. So this is a great day for me and indeed for   Nigerians.”

According to him, “today we witnessed some improvements on the lapses of the last two weeks. The process here was very smooth and I have not heard of any complain around here in Tambuwal about card readers failing to recognise finger print of voters.”

The Speaker who is contesting against his brother in-law Senator Abdullah Wali, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), said the election is not about family but about the person Sokoto people want to lead them in the next four years.

“It is not about the family. It is about who the people of Sokoto state want,” he said.

Our correspondent reporting from Tambuwal said the Speaker’s residence has been turned into a mini Mecca with women and youths chanting ‘Sai Matawalle!’ , “Sai gwamnan gobe!”.
