HYPPADEC to take delivery of Yauri community’s N1bn water project September

The Hydro Power Producing Development Areas Commission (HYPPADEC) has said it will take delivery of the N1 billion Yauri community water project by September this year.

A 40-year-old water board and three other supply points in the community are being rehabilitated by HYPPADEC in collaboration with the Kebbi State Water Board to boost water supply.

HYPPADEC’s Managing Director, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, who disclosed this while inspecting the level of work at the various sites of the water project, said the project had three supply points and major inlets and outlets which totalled over four million cubic metres that would be sufficient to meet the water demand of the Yauri community.

He further said, “The project was initially billed for completion by July 31, this year, but for some technical hitches on the part of the contractors, it will now be ready and handed over to us in September this year.”

He noted that Yauri and New Busa in Niger State were selected for the project because the agreement the authorities made with them when the Kainji Dam was to be built to provide them with electricity and water was not fulfilled in the new expansions, adding that, “HYPPADEC was established to meet that commitment.”

He added that HYPPADEC’s engineers and those of the Kebbi State water resources and water board were always around to guide the contractors in order to achieve a hitch-free handover of the project.
