Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker on Tuesday raised alarm that the use of alternative medicine for the treatment of hypertension can cause stroke and sudden deaths.
The Commissioner said this in Abeokuta during a press briefing in commemoration of World Hypertension Day.
Coker, who spoke on this year’s theme “Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, live longer” said it was to create awareness on the risk of high blood pressure.
She raised the alarm over the complication of alternative medicine, saying that there had not been any data that indicated that hypertension has been either cured or controlled.
Describing hypertension as a silent killer and a major public health problem, Coker warned that high blood pressure should not be ignored so as to avoid complications such as heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, heart failure and problems with sight.
