The Zamfara State chapter of the Hunters Group of Nigeria (HGN) has written a letter to Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle indicating willingness to protect boarding schools across the state.
The state government had earlier announced the closure of schools after the mass abduction of Jangebe schoolgirls about 10 days ago.

A copy of the letter addressed to the governor through the Commissioner for Security and Home Affairs reads in part: “We are pleased to write and request for the consent of the state government to engage the actual Hunters Group of Nigeria to guard its public schools in the state.
“Our members are dedicated law-abiding individuals with training and expertise to work with other sister security agencies to defend our communities.
“It is in consideration of the importance of maintaining uniformity and stability in academic calendar, as well as the overall importance of education to our teeming schoolboys and girls that such schools should not be closed, but instead be given adequate protection.
“The hunters group is registered with the federal government with members across the nation and formation commands in all the states of the federation.
“In furtherance of this, therefore, the hunters, with vast experience in hunting or bush activities and community or traditional based-experiences, are willing to give their contribution to guard public schools across the state while they consider safety of lives as utmost priority.”
The state’s HGN Commander, Alhaji Suleman Lawali Zurmi, confirmed the authenticity of the letter to our correspondent.
