Hunter shoots colleague over girlfriend in Ondo

A local hunter in Ondo State, Ajegba Joseph, has been arrested for allegedly shooting his friend who was alleged of having an affair with his girlfriend, who is a divorcee.

City & Crime learnt that Ajegba (38) had gone to the residence of his girlfriend to give her a bush meat he killed when he saw his friend having fun with the girl through the window.

The state police commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspect shot his friend in the thigh with an unlicensed single-barrel gun.

He said, “Upon sighting the victim with the woman in bed, the suspect shot the him through the window side.

“The suspect was arrested, and the barrel gun recovered with an expended cartridge, while the victim rescued by the police is currently recuperating at the hospital.”

He said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Meanwhile, detectives from the state police command have nabbed four- member syndicate, who specializes in car snatching and robbery in the state. 

The commissioner, while parading the gang members at the command’s headquarters in Akure on Wednesday, said the arrest of the suspects was part of the significant strides the force made in the fight against crime in the state in the month of August.

He explained that the suspects, who specialised in inter-state car theft and snatching, were apprehended through intelligence gathering in Ogun state, where they always sell. 

According to Mr Oladipo, one of the suspects simply identified as Akinsanya Sarafa Adeniyi, notoriously known as ‘Oba Idan’, was arrested following a petition about a daring armed robbery in which a Toyota Corolla was snatched, and it led to the arrest of other suspects. 

The police boss added that a female accomplice who produced fake vehicular documents and others who aided the principal suspect in evading arrest were also arrested.
