Six suspects arrested for their alleged involvement in the sale and distribution of adulterated diesel in Lagos have revealed to operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, about how they cooked black oil to produce diesel, which they sold to dealers in the state.

The six suspects were arrested on Thursday when officials from NSCDC raided their production site in the Olushosun area of Oregon, in Ikeja.

NSCDC Lagos State Command is accusing the suspects of illegal production, sale and distribution of adulterated Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) also known as diesel.

The suspects-four males and two females-who were identified as Babatunde Adedayo, 35, John Eric, 35, Jude Uwosa, 51, Sodiq Olawale, 27,  Neat John, 20 and Isaac Anita, 32, according to NSCDC, have all admitted involvement in the illegal deal.

One of the suspects, according to an NSCDC source, gave a graphic account of how they cooked black oil to produce diesel, which they sold to unsuspecting buyers.

The Commandant in-charge of the Lagos State Command of NSCDC, Eweka Okoro, who confirmed the incident, said the anti-vandal unit of the command stormed the illegal bunkering site around 3.30pm on Thursday, while on routine and surveillance patrol.

Okoro revealed that the team arrested the six suspected oil thieves, while attempting to load a 40,000 litre capacity truck, with suspected adulterated AGO, also known as diesel at the site.

He said it was discovered that AGO was being illegally stored, adulterated and used for commercial purposes.

“A truck (Scania – white colour ), with plate number FS7737XF, two pumping machines, empty drums and filled drums, with suspected adulterated AGO were discovered at the site,” he added.

The commandant directed that the suspects be interrogated and investigated at the State Command Headquarters, Alausa, Ikeja.
