With physical classrooms disrupted due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Pas Prize, a recognition and reward platform in sensitising excellence in education, has launched an online academic competition to promote excellence in Nigeria’s education.
Arewa Trust Weekly reports that 15 applicants participated in the competition, which is an avenue for discovering and rewarding outstanding students in science and mathematics, to ensure excellence in education.
Speaking to our correspondent on phone, the Founder and Programme Lead, Nina Mbah, said the competition has since 2016 convened over 2,000 outstanding students in English spelling, Science and Mathematics from about 150 schools in Katsina and Kaduna states.
She said the winners of the 2020 Pas Prize competition were between the ages of 12 and 18.
“The ups and downs of 2020 stopped education for millions of students globally.
“While several innovations are springing up to bridge these learning gaps to ensure learning continues, education stakeholders must also seek ways to support these numerous and dynamic learning efforts,” she said.
She said even though Nigeria struggles with providing smooth internet connection, a lot of students show determination in participating in the competition adding that with online platforms, participation is free and location no longer a barrier.
