How tourism sector ‘ll contribute to 1$trn economy – Musawa

The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has stated that the federal government is harnessing potential of the tourism sector as it aims to contribute to Nigeria’s $1 trillion dollar economy target.

Musawa stated this at a stakeholders’ roundtable for the validation event dedicated to Nigeria’s Draft National Tourism Policy hosted by the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy in collaboration with the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG).

According to a statement by the NESG, the minister noted that, “The event marked a significant step toward aligning Nigeria’s tourism framework with global standards while celebrating the country’s rich cultural and natural resources.

“It also serves as an avenue where stakeholders will input rich suggestions that will ensure that the policy becomes a document that will accelerate growth in the sector and also contribute to Nigeria’s $1trn economy target.”

Musawa underscored the vast but untapped tourism potential and its diverse landscapes, and economic potential, adding that it is high time to explore the economic potential of the sector.

She stated that the last time Nigeria’s tourism policy was reviewed was in 2005, while noting that, “The revalidated framework aims to modernise the tourism sector, positioning it as a driver of national economic growth.”

Representing the NESG, Dr Ikenna Nwosu, facilitator for the Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment, Culture, Creative, and Sports Policy Commission (THECCS), emphasised the importance of a robust tourism policy while announcing that public-private collaboration will be deployed in adopting the new framework to stimulate economic growth.
