How to tackle banditry, terrorism

There is need to introduce training in self-defence to everyone in the vulnerable areas in the North East and North West.

The training should include handling of firearms by the rural population to serve as a practical deterrence to the constant attacks, kidnapping, extortions, murder and terrorism by the bandits and insurgents, who appear too much for the security agencies.

Allowing people to carry arms will mean they can defend themselves and the mere fact that they too can fight will deter those making the attacks.

People will say it will increase insecurity, but that’s not the case. Nothing can be worse than a situation where Boko Haram or bandits are raping wives and daughters in front of their helpless husbands and fathers who are unarmed, while bandits can take-over your farm during harvest, burn it and kill the farmer.

This will also stop cattle rustling.
