A medical officer with the medical center of Federal Polytechnic, Bida in Niger State has asked students to stay in well ventilated rooms to avoid meningitis.
Dr Kingsley Okeke said poorly ventilated buildings affect air quality and can contribute to the spread of the disease.
Dr. Okeke who disclosed this in a recent interview said insufficient blood supply in the nerves to the brain can cause meningitis. He therefore advised students to be cautious of the illness because it can lead to brain disorder.
Other ways of preventing the disease included careful hand washing, getting prompt treatment, staying away from infected people and avoiding sharing personal items.
