How to minimise farmers/herders crisis — FCT council chair

The Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT, Alhaji Abubakar Jibrin Giri, has noted that it will be difficult to put an end to the incessant clashes between farmers and herders in the area.

Giri said that the crises could only be minimised through summoning stakeholders, including village chiefs, for a meeting on the need for them to live in peace with one another.

City & Crime recalls that Gwagwalada has always witnessed clashes between farmers and herders, especially in Paikon-Kore community.

Giri, who noted that the issue was not peculiar to the council, recalled how he always tackled cases of farmers and herders in the area during his first tenure in office, saying he ensured that leaders of the villages and security agents’ representatives attended peace and security meetings.

The chairman, who blamed herders for handing over their cattle to teenagers for grazing, urged the FCT Administration to proffer solutions at the grazing reserve in Paiko village in order to reduce the crises.
