Ahead of the 2023 general elections, women and youths have been told to rise to the occasion and address the representation deficiencies in political offices at the federal, state and local government levels nationwide.
The Permanent Commissioner, Kaduna State Peace Commission and a trustee of the Legal Awareness for Nigerian Women (LANW), Barrister Rebecca Sako-John, made the call while speaking at the launch of a political mentoring programme for women and youths in Kaduna.

LANW, with the support of Action Aid, developed the mentoring programme based on the need for women and youths to be positively involved in politics; how they can be active members of political parties, good governance, voter apathy and the roles they have to play to discourage it among others.
According to Sako-John, “The participation of these groups of Nigerians will help in addressing participation deficiencies. Already, we have a participation deficit in terms of gender, young people and even people with disabilities. The number keeps dwindling.”
The Project Coordinator, “We-You Pro” project, Hannatu Hauwan, said the project is targeting 300 women and young people who are interested in political mentoring which is aimed at ensuring they move from political thuggery to active participation.
