The Senator representing the FCT, Philip Aduda, has said he was jailed while championing the struggle for the emancipation of the people of the territory.
Sen Aduda revealed this when he spoke during the celebration of the 2021 World Indigenous Day with the theme: “FCT Indigenous People and the Call for a New Social Contract”, at the Old Parade Ground, Garki, Abuja.
He also recalled how the incumbent Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abdullahi Adamu Candido, was also jailed during the struggle.
The senator, therefore, called for unity among the nine ethnic groups in the FCT in order for them to achieve their goals in the ongoing struggle.
He assured that he would continue to lobby his colleagues at the National Assembly to ensure that the people of the FCT were carried along and treated like other states of the country.
Also speaking, Alhaji Candido said the challenges facing the natives of the FCT could also be solved by other Nigerians residing in the territory.
Alhaji Candido said, “If you are here representing any government functionary, take it from us that the problem of FCT natives cannot be solved by the FCT people alone, as it has gone beyond FCT natives.”
