Some security personnel who were reportedly conveying N60 million ransom to bandits have been arrested.
According to PRNigeria, the ransom couriers were nabbed based on intelligence.
The operation said to have been simultaneously undertaken by ground troops of the Nigerian Army, as well as special forces of the Nigerian Air Force reportedly resulted in the elimination of some bandits and rescue of victims.
PRNigeria quoted an intelligence operative as saying troops of 271 NAF Detachment in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna, and troops of the Nigerian Army FOB in Gwaska, Kaduna, rescued dozens of kidnapped victims during the coordinated operations.
The intelligence operative reportedly said, “The sum of N60,000,000 in cash, petroleum products and sophisticated weapons, were recovered during the operations.
“Other items recovered by the troops from the suspects include vehicles, AK-47 rifles, magazines, various kinds of ammunition and mobile phones.
“Meanwhile, we will refer the case of the arrested couriers who mostly have identifications with security agencies to the Department of State Service (DSS) and Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) for further investigation.”
Kidnapping for ransom has become a huge business for bandits and terrorists, with security operatives battling so hard to put the situation under control.
