A magistrate’s court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, has ordered the immediate remand of a suspect over offences bordering on rape and theft.
The suspect, Muhammad Bello, alongside his cohort, Chumo, who is at large, reportedly attacked a girl, Doris Emmanuel, who was on her way to the farm to pick cashew nuts at Oko Ode community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Police First Information Report, Bello and Chumo, armed with cutlass and knife, accosted their victim in the bush.
It said Bello reportedly raped and injured her with a knife while Chumo held her legs.
The charge sheet added that: “Doris was later rescued from her attackers, who took to their heels after they saw one Azeez Balogun who heard her screaming in the bush.
“Chumo while escaping the scene, stole the victim’s Tecno phone,” the police added.
The prosecutor, Matthew Ologbonsaye, urged the court to remand the suspect to afford the police time to complete their investigation.
Magistrate Afusat Alege, who presided over the matter, ordered that the defendant be remanded in the custodial centre in Ilorin.
The matter was adjourned till April 13th, 2022 for further mention.
