The Anti-Corruption and Research Based Data Initiative (ARDI) has said the anti-corruption efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari received significant boost with the role of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN) in the past five years.
Executive Secretary of the organisation, Chief Dennis Aghanya, lauded the AGF’s “coordinated prosecution of corruption suspects, recovery of stolen assets and saving the country from economic losses such as the $9.6bn P&ID suit, since the beginning of the administration”.
“ARDI will ever remain grateful for his intervention in the case of the murder of one widow, late Mrs. Helen Okoro in Abia State allegedly by one Tony Ndu. The AGF took over the case file as soon as he received our petition against the Nigeria Police.
On the delay in the release of former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) and the convener of #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore after court orders, he said Malami discharged his duties on providing legal advise to the Federal Government “perfectly”, adding that criticism against his role is part of “any energetic society.”
ARDI advised Malami to focus on the passage of the existing anti-corruption bills before the National Assembly such as the Proceed of Crime Bill and Proceeds of Crimes Recovery and Management Agency passed by the 8th Assembly rather than work on a new bill.
