How lodger raped 19yr-old hotel receptionist in Lagos

Two weeks ago when 19-year-old Islamiyat Usain left Ilorin in Kwara State where she learnt hairdressing for Lagos State; she never knew she was going to land in the hand of a wolf in sheep clothing who forcefully raped her in a hotel toilet.

Islamiya left Ilorin on November 9 and began a job as a receptionist at Mutab Hotel and Suit situated at No 30, Abeokuta Street, Lagos the next day.

Her 9th day on the job is a day she will never forget as a customer, Mr Fuad forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

Narrating how she was raped, Islamiyat told Eko Trust that at about 12 midnight on November 19, a lodger came down to the reception to request a towel.

“I took the towel to the customer after which I went straight to the toilet to ease myself.

“Suddenly someone came after me, it was another lodger from a room not so far from the toilet.

“He started rough handling me while I struggled to escape but he was holding a bottle and he threatened to kill me if I don’t allow him to have sex with me.

“He pushed me down and raped me, I shouted but no help came,” she said.

She reported the incident to her manager, Mr Ali, who raised an alarm in the morning when Fuad was apprehended.

Islamiyat made known that Fuad had lodged in the hotel with his girlfriend after paying N5,000 for a night.

She said, “I came to Lagos to make some money to buy work tools having learnt hairdressing in Ilorin.

“My aunt got me the job, which I intended to do for a short while and then go back to Ilorin to graduate properly from my boss and stand on my own only for a man from nowhere to forcefully have sex with me where I was working to earn a living.

“I feel cheated and abused. Is it a crime to be a girl?” she sobbed.

The rape victim appealed to the Police and the state government to ensure that Fuad does not go free but is punished according to the law so as to serve as a deterrent to others like him.

When contacted, the owner of the hotel, Mutairu Oke, condemned the act, saying the suspect had been handed over to the police while the victim had been taken to the hospital for examination and treatment.

Meanwhile, the Chief Security Officer, Lagos Mainland Local Government Area, Ishola Agbodemu has described Fuad as fond of causing trouble in the area while he condemned his action.

He expressed surprise that the suspect who has a wife at home went ahead to rape a receptionist in a hotel where he lodged with his girlfriend.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, has confirmed the rape case, saying the suspect has been arrested and is in Police custody.
