The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has said that local government fund in his state is used to pay salaries of primary school teachers, traditional rulers, local government chairmen and administrators.

The governor, in an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Monday, said that he is not a signatory to the local government account.

He said that he augmented the funds with the state internally generated revenue (IGR) in case of shortfall.

Abiodun said, “The federal allocation that comes into our state comes in two parts. We have FAC and JERK. The JERK is the allocation that goes to local governments. As the governor, I am not a signatory to that account. When the money comes in and is known.

“The JERK meeting, which comprises chairmen of the councils chairmen, some traditional rulers and local government service commission, is called. It is an all encompassing team. Then the first line charges are paid which include primary school teachers’ salaries, salaries of traditional rulers and the salaries of local government chairmen and administrators themselves.

“In my state I would have to write a check from FAC with my IGR to augment in case there is a shortfall. This is how local government funds are handled in my state. I assume this is what happens in all the 36 states of the federation. But state governors are quickly demonized.”
