Fresh facts have emerged on how the members of Kebbi State House of Assembly impeached the speaker and his deputy, Ismaila Abdulmumuni Kamba and Muhammadu Buhari Aliero, respectively.
Our correspondent reports that the mace, the symbol of authority of the parliament, was taken from the speaker’s office in the early hours of Tuesday.

A source told our correspondent that the mace was taken by the lawmakers to perfect the impeachment of the presiding officers of the assembly. The lawmakers sat immediately after they got possession of the mace at a yet to be known location.
On the floor of the House, the clerk, Ahmed Usman Bunza, only announced the name of the member, representing, Bagudo Constituency, Muhammed Abubakar Lolo as the new speaker and Mohammed Usman Zuru as the deputy speaker.
The member, representing Fakai Constituency, Lawal Haruna Gele, moved the motion for the impeachment of the deputy speaker.
Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Muhammed Tukur, said only three out of the 24-member parliament did not sign the impeachment of the presiding officers.
“Twenty-one out of the 24 of us signed for the impeachment. Nobody influenced our decision,” he said. The new speaker and his deputy have since been sworn in.
Contacted, the impeached speaker declined comment, saying “ I won’t talk now.”
