An ice storm has destroyed farms and houses in communities in Dutsen-Kura/Kanya and Gozaki wards of Kafur LGA of Katsina State.
Malam Abdullahi Gozaki, a resident of Gozaki town told Daily Trust that no one in the area had ever witnessed such an occurrence.

He said farmlands, roofs of houses and car windscreens were damaged by the ice storm that lasted for a few minutes.
He listed the affected communities as Gidan Danwada, Gidan Sabo, Kabalawa, Unguwar Tsamiya, Dandabo, Unguwar Maigarma, Unguwar Wanzamai and Unguwar Fulani.
Commenting on the incident, the Chairman of Kafur LGC, Alhaji Garba Kanya, said the ice pellets destroyed more than 300 farms in several communities in the affected areas.
He said several crops worth millions of naira, which included maize, millet, rice, soybeans, onions and pepper, were destroyed, adding that “on some farms, rice was just ready for harvesting.”
He added that relevant authorities, among them Katsina State Agricultural and Rural Development Agency (KTARDA) and the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), were notified and had taken stock of the level of destruction.
