How I was raped, impregnated, forced to Kwara – Bayelsa woman

A young woman, Tina Wilson, who was found loitering in the Kulende area, Ilọrin, has narrated how she was raped in Bayelsa State which resulted in a pregnancy and her forced relocation to Kwara State.

Tina told a delegation from the Ministry of Social Development that she was raped a few months ago in her community in Mbiama LGA of Bayelsa State before embarking on an undefined sojourn which led her to Kwara State.

She said, “I was raped while in Bayelsa. Since then, I decided to leave the state. I was just walking, boarding cabs from place to place. Sometimes, I begged for alms for transport fare till I found myself here in Kwara.”

Tina, who appreciated the care and love offered to her by the Kwara State Government, pleaded not to be sent back to her state.

The Commissioner for Social Development, Mrs Opeyemi Oluwakemi Afolashade, reiterated the government’s resolve to provide timely intervention and support to all vulnerable groups to boost social sanity and self-development.

While appreciating the timely reaction of people on the matter, Mrs Afolashade emphasised that, “The ministry, by its established law, has the mandate to receive, evacuate, provide shelter and make necessary intervention to the vulnerable and the needy regardless of their status or social stratification.”
