How I lost so much

Some of these reforms like the revolution in the banking sector (recapitalization), the global system mobile (GSM) and the introduction of automated teller machine (ATM) are some of the solutions to human inadequacy that technology has come to solve. Many banks after the deregulation policy spent great deal of their fortune to perfect and safeguard customer’s accounts against fraudsters. This is in view of high incidence of fraudsters hacking into ATM accounts of individuals and organisations and getting away with their hard-earned money.

The question to ask is how can we rate the operations of Nigerian banks as it relates to ATM? Recently, my experience with a bank has been devastating when a huge amount of money was stolen from my account even when my ATM card is not in use for four months. Though I have forwarded a formal complaint to the management of the bank am yet to be notified on the issue at hand. The process is slow, cumbersome and seems not to promise any succor for me.

Accordingly, in spite of the complaints on the pages of newspapers on the activities of fraudsters around ATM and other accusations leveled against banks employees for fraudulently tampering with customers’ accounts, the banks are doing less to arrest the situation. It then becomes paramount to note that banks need to take proactive steps to safeguard our savings otherwise Nigerians will begin to question the operational capacity and integrity of the IT deployed by banks to serve their customers.
