How I escaped persecution for bisexuality in Minna – Mohammed Bello

Mohammed Bello, a 37-year-old Nigerian, who was arrested because of his sexual orientation has gone into hiding.

Bello, an indigene of Niger state, went into hiding following threats to his life in his home state of Niger.

Speaking from his hideout, Bello said his trouble started after he was caught in 2012 having sex with his boyfriend in an uncompleted building in Minna, capital of Niger.

Officials enforcing Shariah law and some other persons had declared him persona non-grata.

Speaking with Daily Trust, Bello said he would only come out of hiding if his security is guaranteed.

Daily Trust reports that the Nigerian law forbids homosexuality and there have been numerous instances of arrest and detention over this act.
