Gunmen freed seven inmates from the farm settlement of Okigwe Correctional Centre in the early hours of Monday, February 12, 2024.
The spokesman of the Correctional Centre in Imo State, Mr Goodluck lbegbulam, who confirmed the incident, yesterday in Owerri, said the armed hoodlums numbering about 24 on eight motorcycles stormed the farm settlement at Okigwe around 5:30am.

He said the gunmen suspected to be members of the outlawed Eastern Security Network (ESN) freed inmates who had few weeks to complete their sentences.
He said the correctional centre was now working with sister agencies to ensure that they were brought back to the farm settlement centre.
