How Governor Ortom’s security aide was killed — Police

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed the killing of AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd), Security Adviser to Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.

The command said Dega was killed in a restaurant in Bukuru, in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

ASP Ubah Gabriel, the spokesman for the command, who disclosed the development to journalists in Jos, added that some suspects had been arrested.

According to the command, an investigation revealed that the deceased was trailed to the restaurant where the incident occurred.

He said, “The Plateau State Police Command has on a sad note received an ugly report of the death of AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd).

“On 31/05/2021 at about 2030hrs, AIG Christopher Dega (Rtd) was shot dead by three yet to be identified gunmen in an isolated restaurant at Bukuru, Jos.

“From the investigation so far, it appeared that he was trailed and shot.

“He arrived at Jos from Makurdi on the same date at about 1930hrs.”

“Meanwhile, the investigation is ongoing, he added.

Meanwhile, Governor Samuel Ortom on Wednesday described the assassination of his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Security, Retired Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Dega, as devastating and a huge blow to his administration and the entire state.

Ortom in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, condemned the murder of the retired AIG whom he said was very active even in retirement.
