How fake doctor defrauded 25 POS operators in Ekiti

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti State has paraded two suspects for offences bordering on theft, obtaining under false pretence, impersonations and fraud.

The suspects, Ademiluyi Ayodeji (36) and Innocent Ekpo (26) were arrested in separate locations.

The NSCDC said Ayodeji had been parading himself as a medical doctor to defraud POS operators by sending them fake alerts and collecting cash from them.

He was said to have been using an application on his phone that triggered a call from his fake hospital that a patient needed his attention.

The NSCDC said, “The POS operator will then consider his status and allow him to go. Later the POS operator will discover that he or she has been duped.”

According to the NSCDC, he had within Ado-Ekiti metropolis defrauded over 25 POS operators before men of the counter- terrorism unit launched a manhunt for him and got him arrested.

The command pointed out that preliminary investigation showed that he was not a doctor but an okada rider.

Also, Ekpako, who was arrested in Ikom, Cross River State, was alleged to have run away with a huge sum of money belonging to his master in Ado-Ekiti.

The NSCDC said, “The suspect was an employee of a store in Ado-Ekiti where he worked as a sales representative before he was sent on an errand with some money which he did not return. He disappeared into thin air until he was tracked, traced and arrested in Cross River State.”

The command’s spokesman, Afolabi Tolulope, said the two suspects had confessed to the crimes.
