An operative of the Department of State Services (DSS) was killed on Wednesday night in an exchange of fire between security personnel and gun runners in Kalong village of Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The identity of the victim was given as Barrister Muktar Moddibo who hailed from Misau Local Government Area of Bauchi state.

The remains of Moddibo have since been recovered and deposited at the University Teaching Hospital (JUTH).
Daily Trust reports that the incident occurred during a joint operation with the Nigerian Military in the said area where Moddibo was said to have been hit by a bullet during the gun battle with the security personnel.
The security personnel including the DSS were reported to have stormed the village in search of a leader of gun runners and other armed syndicates following a tip-off over the whereabouts of some gun dealers located in the area.
It was gathered that some gun runners were arrested with five AK47 by the DSS before the incident.
The incident came in the thick of the on-going operation by the DSS to track down kidnappers, armed bandits, and gunrunners terrorising different parts of the state.
Daily Trust reports that the ongoing operation had led to the arrest of the killer of a Unijos lecturer, Dr. Joanna Drenkat, who was killed by a syndicate of kidnappers and arms the recovered.
