The event featured different traditional dances, songs, testimonies, and eulogies, while the residents trooped out en mass to witness the occasion.

Some of the residents said such chieftaincy title on the member of their community was unprecedented and heartwarming.

One of the residents, Rowland Malangwa, said the honour was well deserved because many people are avoiding North East because of insurgency, but that Chief Kalvin has been there doing great work and uplifting people’s lives.

He said Chief Kalvin had also brought hope to many communities in numerous ways, and that his gestures/activities did not go unnoticed by the people of Yobe State.

Malangwa explained that Chief Kalvin is from Adamawa State and that the coronation can further boost unity and understanding between Adamawa State and Yobe State.

He urged Chief Kalvin not to relent but continue to work for the upliftment of northern communities which in recent time have been having security challenges like insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, farmers-herdsmen clashes, among others.

He urged others to emulate him and contribute not only to the development of the northern region alone but the nation at large.

Another resident, Chionye Mmor-Eseh, said she had known Chief P. D. Kalvin for more than 20 years and that he is a man that has always given back to society.

According to her, Chief Kalvin has a good heart and is passionate about the development and stability of the north.

She prayed that God will see him through his reign as the Mai Kakkadi of Jigawa District, Fika Emirate Council, Potiskum, Yobe State.

In his speech, Chief Kalvin said he would do his best to keep bettering the lives of the people of Jigawa District in Potiskum and that he is greatly elated by the opportunity to serve.

He said His Royal Highness, the District Head of Fika Emirate Council, Dr Dauda Mohammed Ataye, has recognised his work in the community and has honoured him, adding that he would not disappoint the people.

According to him, he would work well and hand-in-hand with the District Head and would be a loyal person in his council.

Chief Kalvin explained that the meaning of his traditional title, ‘Mai Kakkadi’ is ‘the owner or king of books’ which is in line with his service to the communities there (supplying of books to schools).

He said through the reading of the books the people’s lives have tremendously improved and that if extended, it can boost/create knowledge about the northern economy.

And by boosting the northern economy, he said, the insecurity in the north will seriously reduce and people’s lives will be better.

He said he is working towards establishing a foundation that can formulate a good network to give books to less privileged people in the society.

He called on northern youths to engage themselves in reading because knowledge is power, and that education is key in life.
