How APC can win governorship election in Taraba – Chieftain

The Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) local government congresses in Taraba State, Clever Ikiukpo, has said that only a level playing field for all members would enable the party to win the governorship election in the state.

The state is currently under the leadership of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governor, Darius Ishaku.

Ikiukpo said failure to conduct free and fair congresses would create wrangling that could prevent the party from winning the governorship and other elections in the state.

He stated this on Friday while addressing members of the party at the state’s secretariat of APC in Jalingo, the capital.

“We, the committee sent by the national secretariat, are for all members of APC in Taraba and we would be fair to everyone by providing a level playing ground,” he said.

He urged all members to unite and work for the progress of the party in the state.

The party’s caretaker committee chairman in the state, Barrister Ibrahim El-Sudi assured of members’ maximum cooperation that would enable peaceful conduct of the local government congresses in the state.

Daily Trust reports that APC has insisted that its local government congresses slated for Saturday, September 4, 2021, would go on as planned despite the court order stopping it.

A high court in Asaba, the Delta State capital, had on Wednesday issued an order of interim injunction restraining the party from holding its scheduled LG congresses.

It also restrained the Chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Governor Mai Mala Buni, and other members of the committee from parading in that capacity.

But Secretary of the Caretaker Committee, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe, Thursday in Abuja, inaugurated a committee for the conduct of the LG congresses on Saturday.

He said APC members who took the party to court would be sanctioned.
